A Sender ID is what the recipient of the SMS will see who it came from. There are 2 types of Sender ID that is supported on this platform:
- DID numbers that are SMS capable (eg. Virtual Mobile Number)
- An approved company/brand name
DID Numbers
DID Numbers that have been assigned to any Voice Services that belong to the same Customer, and those that are SMS capable (eg. Virtual Mobile Numbers) will be able to be used as the Sender ID.
You can restrict and/or enable what DID numbers that can be used by your end customer. To do this, navigate to the Service’s Configuration page and click on the Sender ID tab.
Brand Name
You can also register a brand/company name on behalf of your end user. Once this brand name has been registered, the user will be able to use the brand name as a Sender ID when sending out an SMS. The recipient of the SMS will see the brand name instead of a number.
When using a brand name as a Sender ID, it is important to note:
- the brand name will only appear for messages sent within Australia and NOT internationally
- Incoming messages will not work when a recipient tries to reply to the message
- Brand names are limited to 11 characters
Registering for a Brand Name
You can register for the right to use a brand name directly on the Atomic portal. You will need to provide justification for the use of a brand name.
Navigate to Services > SMS and click on the Manage button for the specific service where you want to add the Brand Name. Click on the tab called Sender ID and click on the button Add Brand Name.
Once a submission is made you will be able to track the progress of approval. Approval generally takes 1 business day.
